Srinagar, Feb 03 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Power Engineers and Employees Coordination Committee (JKPEECC) Wednesday said that the privatization of electricity would add to the miseries of consumers and vows to fight the decision tooth and nail until the demands are not met. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Munshi Majid, president of the association while addressing a news conference said that the privatization of electricity is an "anti-people and anti-employee decision". Majid said the consumers won't be able to get the subsidy after the privatization of the sector is done, adding that once the decision is implemented, the consumer has to pay a huge tariff per month. As part of nation-wide protest called by National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) & All India Power Engineers Federation, the employees of the power department under the banner of JKPEECC also held a sit-in in Kashmir, Jammu and twin districts of Ladakh Union Territory. Notably, JKPEECC is an amalgam of four different associations of the power department. “We as employees and consumers will never accept the privatization of the sector.Besides adding misery to the consumers, the decision will also lead to job insecurity for the employees,” he said. Majid said the future programme has not been decided yet. However, he said that the JKPEECC will follow the national programme and the privatization of electricity will be opposed tooth and nail—(KNO)
